Traditional Events require several volunteers to make them happen! If you are interested in helping the Happy Wanderers with an upcoming Event and have been wondering what these positions on the club website entail, here’s a short description of each:

“Event Registration” – This is a trained team of 2 people (usually, can be more at a big event) who manage the registration log, start cards, and collect the walk fees. Must manage a cash box and reconcile walk fees collected v. # of participants. Sandy Krause is our lead for this task, but can always use new faces! Very easy to learn.

“Finish/Stamp Books” – Easy: collect start cards and stamp people’s books either before or after the walk, depending on the format we use that day. Biggest thing: keep control of the AVA stamp!! This costs the club $25 bucks if we lose it...return it to the Treasurer or President after the walk.


“Manning Checkpoints” – This is a critical function for the safety and enjoyment of walkers on a TE. Team(s) of 2 people (no one alone) who set-up a small table, water, snacks and first aid kit at designated places along each route. (The club provides this set-up “kit”) You stamp everyone’s start card as they go through and keep track of their log #s so we know that everyone has completed the trail and nobody got lost! A very important job that we need more help on in the future. Can be organized in more than one shift so you still can do the walk!
