TIMES:  9AM – 5PM. Daily Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas  and New Year’s Day

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Rated 1B, moderately easy. All sidewalks shaded by live oak trees. While accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, the cobblestones can cause difficulties. Restrooms at the Visitor Information Center.

HISTORY:  Savannah, the end of the Georgia line of march, was occupied after the reduction of Fort McAllister, in time for Sherman to offer the city to Lincoln as a Christmas gift. There is a Confederate Memorial, a bronze figure of a Confederate soldier, in Forsyth Park (Gaston Street to Park Avenue).

HIGHLIGHTS: Walk through one of the oldest, most charming cites in the United States. The Historic District, twenty city squares, is alive with culture, art, historic homes, monuments and parks. It is the largest National Historic Landmark District in the USA.

DIRECTIONS: I-95 from North or South, Exit 99 (I-16). Drive East (about 10 Miles) to the end of I-16; turn Left at first traffic signal, Liberty St. Drive one block to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Turn Right on MLK and make an immediate Left into the Visitors Information Center parking lot. Savannah History Museum is at the far end of the parking lot. From the parking lot, enter the Museum through the side door. The walk box is kept at the counter on the Right.
