TIMES: 8 AM to Dusk, Daily
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Trail rated 2B; not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. On park trails that are 40% shaded.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: Ed Stone Park, River Cruises, downtown DeLand, Stetson University, Stetson Mansion.
HISTORY: The hills on the nature trail are shell mounds left by the Park’s first inhabitants, the Timucuan Indians.
DIRECTIONS: From I-4 take Exit 118 to SR 44 West about 7 miles through DeLand; bear left on CR 4110 for 1.9 miles; left on CR 4125 for 3.4 miles. Turn left into Hontoon Island State Park parking lot.
There is no fee for the short ferry ride, or for entry into the state park. Walk to nearby boat dock. Captain will pilot ferry to pickup waiting passengers. Inform the boat captain or a ranger that you are a Volksmarcher that needs the walk box. Upon exiting the ferry, walk to the buildings near the landing. The box is located in the office to the right of the park store but the park staff requests that walkers ask for the box before entering the door.
