Beautiful Day for a Walk

The Happy Wanderers Walking Club was formed in 1991 in Pierson, Florida by Joe Sexton and Fred Sheets. Our goal is to promote the sport, improve our physical fitness through walking, our emotional well being through fellowship, and enjoy the great outdoors. Some of us have literally walked all over the world and we are always ready for a new adventure. As a club, we sponsor a variety of walks during the year.

We have 14 Year Round walks and a 25 K Bike in Florida. We also have three walks in Georgia for a total of 18 Year Round Events. These you can walk (or bike) at anytime but can only get Event credit twice a year.You can get Distance credit everytime you walk. Walk boxes are located at convenient locations . You just sign up, get the directions, and do the walk. If you are not interested in the credit stuff, you can just walk it for the health of it. These type of walks are sponsored by clubs all over the US and Canada.

Several times a year we also sponsor a Sanctioned Event or Scheduled Walks. These differ from a Year Round in that they have a scheduled start and end time. These walks offer you the ability to get together with other volkssporters and meet new people. Many times these walks are followed by a bite at a local restaraunt. Food is also provided at some of the events for a small fee. Other clubs, like the Mid-Florida Milers, Suncoast Sandpipers, and the First Coast Trail Forgers hold similar walks that we attend.

For those of us who really like the fun, fellowship, and food, we also hold 5K FUN walks on Wednesday nights at 6PM. These are non-sanctioned group walks where we can just enjoy each other's company. These are a great starter walk for those who are "just not sure".
