  START/FINISH:  Port Orange YMCA, 4701 City Center Parkway, Port Orange, FL 32129 (must pick up directions from the YMCA then drive to start point at Reed Canal Park in South Daytona).

  TIMES:  available 7 days a week, 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset. Please walk during daylight hours only.

  TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Trail is rated 1 but strollers and wheelchairs will have difficulty due to soft, sandy trail in park. Walk is through lovely, shaded residential areas and city parks. Circles Reed Canal lake, site of the discovery of the most complete skeletal remains of the prehistoric giant ground sloth ever found.

  LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: Museum of Arts & Sciences (where the Giant Sloth is displayed), Halifax Historical Society Museum, Daytona INternational Speedway, World’s Most Famous Beach.

  HISTORY:  In 1975, the remains of a giant sloth were found in a borrow pit on Nova Road by Reed Canal Park.

  DIRECTIONS: I-95 Exit 256, East on SR 421 (Dunlawton Ave.) Left at 3rd traffic light, City Center Parkway. Go past Police Station. Start is at YMCA on your right. We thank the YMCA for their help and encourage use of the facility.
